Toys, toys, TOYS!

Yesterday started out a bit damp so we spent a lot of time inside. The girls are learning about being house dogs so this is a new and novel experience for them. People regularly just assume that a dog is going to immediately know all the expectations of living in a house but if you think about it, we have a TON of rules and none of them have anything to do with what a dog considers important. But given time, gentleness, boundaries and direction, any age dog will learn the ropes.

Chima is exploring everything and her nose is always sniffing away. In her explorations she came across her reflection in the fireplace and was a bit perplexed - who was that good looking dog in the glass?

She also came across the toy basket and spent quite awhile digging through and checking everything out. It took awhile to go through because it's a pretty full basket but her favorites were a bully bone and the JW Treat Pod. It doesn't have any treats in it right now but most of the new dogs love it for some reason.

Chima chewing a bone and Salinas deciding if she wants to risk stealing it

It was a great day! I loved watching the girls relax more and Chima has made amazing progress. Since she knows her personal space will be respected, she's quickly letting her guard down and actually did some rattie runs around the back yard on her own and even rolled around in the grass a bit, acting like a puppy! Here's a great video of both her and Sal playing: Sal rolling of course, and Chima with the Treat Pod. She is coming to me occasionally for petting now too, not just touches with the back of my hand on her side like on Saturday.

Salinas was her goofy self and continued to seek out attention and also practice her favorite activity: rolling around on her back. Some of it is to scratch her back but mostly it's just how she plays. Chima will often inspect her while she's rolling around and then with a sniff walk away. Sal also loved the Treat Pod toy and threw it around a bit. Oh, and of course she rolled on it.
