Chima and Salinas' First Day

It was the girls' first full day here but I had to work so they did have a lot of crating in the first part of the day. Here they are kicking back after finishing breakfast. They shined up their bowls and later, unsatisfied by the measly amount of food her breakfast consisted of, Chima ate part of the rubber rim around her stainless steel bowl.

Salinas loves people and even though she's a bit worried, she will go right up to people for pets and attention
When I got home from work we spent some time playing in the back yard. It was a beautiful day, supposedly one of the last for awhile, so it was a wonderful time to unwind, get some photos, and just get to know each other.
Hot after playing outside on a warm day
Both girls are very sweet and do great with other dogs. Intros to our dogs Frodo and Tilly were super easy. With people, Salinas does great. She's still nervous and careful but that doesn't stop her from getting some attention.

Rolling, rolling, rolling....

Get that doggy rolling...

Salinas kept us laughing since it seems like her methods of getting around the back yard was either rolling around on her back or jumping up on people to get kisses.

Chima, sniffing my shoe

Chima, a bit nervous about being so close to Troy but choosing to stick around
Chima on the other hand is very careful. While Salinas jumps around getting kisses, Chima is sneaking in for a furtive sniff. She isn't "mean" as the shelter described her. In fact as afraid as she was right after arriving, she didn't growl or even curl her lip at me. She is just so overwhelmed by all the changes in her life that she wants to stand back and watch until she knows that it is safe. I kept a 12 foot lead on her yesterday so that she had plenty of space to maneuver and not feel cornered but so that I'd still have a way to get her back inside the house if I was unable to convince her to come to me. I didn't think it would come to that but I've learned the hard way to have backup.

Salinas finds the fountain
Chima joins her for a sip

The girls were pretty thirsty after a day crated and then playing in the warm back yard. Happily they discovered one of our fountains. Salinas found it first and started slurping some water but Chima, who never likes to get too far from Salinas, quickly joined her and they enjoyed a nice cold drink.

Overall these girls have surpised me. I worried that they would be so under-socialized that it would be tough to get near them, but the reality is that while Chima has some challenges, they are not even close to insurmountable ones.
