New Foster Girls Part Two: Salinas

The good news is that since both of our foster dogs Kasha and Hobbs were adopted, we had room to foster not only Chima, but another of the Barstow girls, who we've named Salinas.

The guess is that she may be a sister of Chima's. All we can do is speculate though since they were strays. What we do know is that of the three adult dogs who were rescued from Barstow Humane Society, Salinas is the most social and really loves people: adults and kids alike. Because of this we're hoping that she'll ease Chima's way since she'll warm up to us quickly and Chima can watch her and hopefully start to follow her lead. We are told she weighs about 18 pounds and is likely about 2 years of age.

Salinas was named for the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument in central New Mexico. The National Monument protects the ruins of mission communities founded by Spanish missionaries in the early 1600's: the ruins of three mission churches, at Quarai, Abó, and Gran Quivira and the partially excavated Pueblo of Las Humanas or, as it is known today, the Gran Quivira Pueblo. By 1670 the area was completely depopulated by the native inhabitants and Spaniards alike. It was first made a National Monument in 1909 and was enlarged and renamed the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument in 1988.
