A Trip to the Park

There's always the dilemma with Langley - take the early walk and you avoid extra people out and about with their dogs but walk later and you avoid all the birds that lead Langley into a frenzy. Yesterday we opted for the early walk and it went pretty well until we got down to the park.

Getting ready to enter the park

The park consists of a large grassy area next to a small lake, a path around the perimeter and a small playground. He did really well on the walk, loose lead most of the time, and made it a few feet into the park when he he noticed a dog being walked, a couple walking near the water, and birds. Lots of birds.

About halfway around the path but losing interest in anything but the crows and ducks

On the bench for a photo-op but he just  couldn't stop  watching the birds

We high-tailed it away to a different part of the park but he was increasingly tense and so we turned around and headed back towards home.

By this point his tail was going down and he wasn't interested in anything  but the birds and the people walking so we turned around and started our walk back up the hill towards home.

Even the novelty of walking around in the sand wasn't enough to distract him. I wish there was a way poor Langley could go about the world and not get his brain snagged on things along the way. He's such a love and I want so badly for his world to grow. His overall progress is great but day to day it is easy to feel like he's stuck.
